Sunday night at Bible Study Ken was talking about wisdom and how we gain wisdom. He is going through the book of James, and James says to ask for wisdom when you are lacking. One of the men asked, "why don't we 'get' wisdom sometimes when we are begging for it?" Great question and Ken had a great point. James tells us to ask. The context is trials, and one of the myriad of reasons why we can "count it all joy" when we are bombarded with trials is because it reminds us once again, we are but dust. We ask because we realize in ourselves we don't have the answers. We are dependent creatures, at the mercy of God. Christ said "apart from me you can do nothing." That is where we learn a heart of wisdom, being completely dependent on Him. We learn this through a series of trials, some on going and as we "wrestle" (as Jacob did) with God, He touches us. He even, as Jacob and Paul, places an ongoing hardship in our lives to remind us over and over of our dependence on Him, and as Ken said last night to remind us we belong to Him.
